World Champion Triathlete Partners with Desert Mountain
Three-time and reigning IRONMAN World Champion Mirinda Carfrae is partnering with Desert Mountain to become its resident touring professional triathlete. Mirinda will live and train at Desert Mountain when she’s not competing internationally.
Mirinda will utilize Desert Mountain’s 15-mile trails system, quiet roadways that provide variations in elevation for biking, the fitness facility (currently undergoing a renovation) and the club’s proximity to Bartlett Lake for her open swim workouts. Currently training in her hometown of Boulder, Colo., for the 2015 IRONMAN World Championship in October in Hawaii, she will be in residence at Desert Mountain early next year.
While Desert Mountain is best known for 108 holes of championship golf and highly-rated practice facilities, there’s a new trend in the private club industry for more fitness and outdoor amenities as well as endurance-type activities. Just recently, triathlon has become the fastest-growing participatory sport in the world generating interest from CEOs, CFOs, and high net worth business executives. The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times have referred to the phenomenon as “the new golf”.
The club’s partnership will be beneficial to both Mirinda and Desert Mountain. When she’s in residence, she will share her knowledge and experiences with the membership and will host biking, running and training events exclusively for them.
Mirinda, who is Australian, is married to Timothy O’Donnell, fourth-ranked men’s professional triathlete. Together they are a formidable husband-and-wife team in triathlete circles.
